~4/5I think I've just given in at this point. I know that this series has some serious issues regarding healthy relationships. But as a guilty pleasure, I really like it.This series is so dirty. Explicitly dirty. I love it.We get to see what started Shirotani's problems, and why he feels so shameful and bad all the time. It's honestly heartbreaking.Hearing Kurose's reasons for wanting to be with Shirotani is actually more unhealthy and problematic, in my mind. It's even a little disturbing, and the way he's mean to Shirotani is a bit upsetting. And yet I like the way that he reassures Shirotani afterward. It is sadistic, for sure, at times.I honestly really enjoy this series, and am looking forward to the next one. I adore this couple on so many levels. They are so human, with their feelings and misconceptions. I know amateur translations are out there, but a professional translator really lets you appreciate the story as it's meant to be. It's even more amazing than I thought! Sad about shorter chapters, but not impatient at all about multiple volumes. Usually multiple volumes are because a popular story gets dragged on long past its storyline
Ten Count is one of the better yaoi manga I've read, primarily because it takes the time to develop its characters before they ever actually touch, so that when the romance comes, it means something to you. Volume four continues the mix of sexy scenes and surprisingly deep introspection for the characters. Kurose and Shirotani have a complex relationship that isn't easily labeled, which is how relationships often end up in real life. Shirotani's anxiety and insecurities are easy to relate to and understand. Kurose remains the more mysterious character, especially after volume four's revelations about Shirotani's past and how he came to be the person he is today. I hope future volumes will similarly delve into Kurose's past. The art is another defining trait of this manga, as it defies the usual "bigger, manly seme and small, feminine uke" imagery that is typical of yaoi manga (though, thankfully, that trend is beginning to lose steam). Kurose and Shirotani look more like equals. Both are very attractive, and the sexy scenes are drawn with detail (nothing is censored). Overall the series looks great.My only complaint is one I have with many yaoi manga (though this issue pops up in other genres, it is especially prevalent in yaoi). The issue is abuse, and how dangerously close to abuse Ten Count is getting. One of the things I liked most about earlier volumes was the fact that Kurose explicitly asked for and received consent before doing anything to/with Shirotani. And while he continues this in volume four, I found it bothersome that he employed a bit of emotional blackmail toward the end of the volume. I won't spoil anything, but you'll know what I mean when you see it. This type of scene shows up in a lot of yaoi anime/manga, and it's always unwelcome. For a series that had so far been so good about things like this, a backstep like this was annoying.Still, that's a minor complaint in an otherwise fantastic manga. Ten Count is an undeniably sexy series that manages to also be thoughtful and present a rather realistic look at how phobias and other mental issues can affect a person's life.
Am i the only one who couldn't find vol 3 before buying this? Anyways still good, seemed short but it got down and dirty sooo hehe
