On Wednesday, I ordered this book. On Thursday, I read it. On Sunday, I published my first story on Amazon. Clearly written, to the point, and free of artifice, this book was a clear guide to approaching the creation and publishing of erotica on Amazon. It does help if you know how to write, and understand scene and sequel, and are comfortable putting your ideas on paper. I have no idea what Ms. Baker's pen names are, but I'd love to read some of her work, based on this Handbook. Great job, Emily!
I like the easy style and friends-over-coffee voice. The advice seems practical and reasonable but not very well fleshed out(ha! A pun...). The price was about right but I kept getting really distracted by the same things that bugs me about alot of the self-press stuff is that simple misspellings, bad grammar, and sloppy editing do not lend an air of "Listen to me;I know what I am doing.". Author admonishes, and rightly so, not to be lazy but not proofreading even in a cursory way implies some inconsistencies with the message.Not a bad price point, not earth-shattering info, but a nice style. Easy read. Some gems.
The author pretty much covers the 'waterfront' with regards to what a new author needs to do and what s/he will face in submitting stories to Amazon. What attracted me the most was the chance to create 'passive' income as she calls it where your stories can sell for a long time after you have submitted them. And she urges new authors to write something every day without fail. And try different genres of erotica as well. While the author goes for volume of stories to help create a good income, personally I am most attracted to a well written story as opposed to just some story that may sell. It will always be a balance between something written with some real care vs. generating income. I think readers deserve the best from the writers they may read.
This book is worth like 10-stars! There is so much information and wisdom inside. I've read a lot of books on writing, but this is by far one of the best. It's so good that I ordered the paperback soon after reading the kindle version. I plan to keep the paperback on my desk as a reference book. By the way, I also loved Emily's other book called "Writing Motivation." It too was amazing. Buy both of them! ***Emily, thank you so much for writing this! Please write more writing motivational books. And by the way, I wish I knew your pen names so that I could check out your short stories. That spicy example that you used in this handbook (about the woman waiting for her furniture to be delivered) made me want to check out your awesome catalog. Send me the pen names for your other stuff :-)
