About the Author
Sean Julian was born in Derbyshire, England, studied at the Mansfield College of Art, and then moved to Bristol to study illustration. Sean being himself big and hairy, he was always happiest drawing bears and other hairy creatures. This naturally led him to a career in children’s book illustration. My toddler loves it
This is a cute book, perfect to read at bedtime to a toddler or to bring along to a restaurant, when the little one has to sit still and you just need something to keep them entertained. The drawings are fun and cute and give plenty of things to talk about, which is why I like to take books along to restaurants. The subject is love and relationships in general and show that a mother loves her child for all kinds of reasons and loves all aspects of the child.The book is written in rhymes that are perfect to train the memory of the child when reading the book over and over again. I like to switch up images and rhymes to see if the little one remembers which rhyme goes with which image. The drawings are realistic and the book is of sturdy material, sure to last a long time.I recommend this book to parents of toddlers that need a bedtime story book, but also to parents who like me take a book along to a restaurant to entertain the toddler with reading, but also discovering new details in the images that are in the book. Â Written in the voice of the mommy bunny (when faced with a hairy spider, Funny Bunny calls out "Mom"), this is a wonderful read-aloud choice for a boy or girl. Â And if illustrators are what draw you to children's books, then Sean Julian is a name to look out for. Â Even the end papers will have readers smiling, as Funny Bunny cavorts on patches of grass.While published by a Christian imprint and written by "Zonderkidz" (if you search the Library of Congress information, you may spot a specific name credited with the lovely rhyming text), this is only not overtly, solely Christian with it's themes of love and family. I read this aloud to my nine-year-old sister and she laughed throughout the entire book and completely melted at the pictures (this was a little “young†for her as she’s been reading chapter books for years now, but she still loves them). I agree with her that the illustrations are simply adorable and sweet.The text is very rhythmic, which I enjoy reading. It definitely seems like it is geared more for mom/child with just one page, where the big bunny loves “how you call my name in your own special way†(and the illustration amplifies “MOM!â€). Besides that, it fits almost any adult/child relationship and is a sweet little book.Though marketed as a Christian book, there is nothing in here that really is “Christian.†(just for those who are interested in that tidbit)*I received this book from Book Look Bloggers and happily provided my honest review.*
