I had been wishing for 2-3 years that they do a book. Used to get the ebooks until they stopped (:Book is really nice, pictures of each recipe and it’s history. Nice paper, print size, and lies open for easy use. Love it.Best, the cookies are great. I’ve made many in the past and they do not disappoint. Some of our favorite holiday cookies came from this collection.
I have so many cookie and baking books, it is just ridiculous. But this is a beauty! Clear and precise, with photos of every single cookie. It works in other States! Wait... Do people from other States know what ’putzy’ means? Or ’putzing around?
Contains a lot of unusual recipes. Does not contain the good old traditional Minnesota cookie recipes we grew up with. Not a chocolate chip cookie recipe in the batch. What about the yummy Scandinavian & German cookies? Another tip for the perfect rosette? Where were the snickerdoodle & the peanut butter cookies with the fork prints? I was pleased to see the Russian Tea Cakes cookie recipe & notes. That brought back memories of messy goodness, which made me want to bake another batch. Although the peanut butter chocolate kiss cookies were not a favorite, they too brought back memories of great Minnesota cookies. The other recipes did little to motivate me to try them. Minnesota is blessed with prolific cookie bakers—always something sweet with the coffee when someone stops by. Too bad this book concentrated on the non traditional. Uff-dah!!
Being from Minneapolis, I have followed the StarTribune cookie contest for years and out cookie baking list consists of many of the winners. This book does not have a bad recipe in the bunch. I do, however, very much miss being able to buy the e-version online. It was so much more convenient.
A lot (too many) chocolate recipes. I thought would have better variety. Still good recipes though.
The Great Minnesota Cookie Book was a St. Nicholas Day gift for my partner, the cookie baker who still lives at home (the others having grown up and moved out). She already plans on adding a couple to the Christmas spread for this December. As a non-baking cookie eater, I noticed that the full color, full page pictures of each cookie help provide a visual sample for attempting a new recipe.
Very good, simple recipes and more importantly great tasting cookies!!!
