Review
The adoption of health information systems is a well-documented challenge. Despite its prevalence in our industry, there is an absence of viable solutions. Thankfully, this book provides an effective prescription, one that eliminates the headache and uncertainty of adoption and provides a roadmap to engage in this critical work. Based on real-life examples and research, this is a must-read for every healthcare leader striving to optimize their systems for improved outcomes. --Gene Thomas, CIO, Memorial Hospital at GulfportWe were big fans of the first edition of Beyond Implementation, and saw many of the lessons espoused in it through our own series of implementations. As clinicians we speak in the language of clinical vignettes, which are essentially stories that are meant to teach future generations. This book takes a similar approach and essentially provides a playbook for success, grounded in the hard-won knowledge of innumerable prior implementations. --Dr. Arun Mathews, Inpatient CMO / CMIO, Medical Center Health SystemThe valuable methodology in Beyond Implementation transforms an implementation plan from an arduous budget busting marathon to an energized and enthusiastic sprint toward product mastery and workflow integration. This book details a vendor and product-agnostic model that works for organizations of all sizes and delivers not just initial compliance but sustained adoption, leading to greater staff and provider productivity at lower costs. --Jack T. Grandey, Healthcare IT Strategic Consultant, TriVectors Healthcare Consulting

Enlightening book with relevant supported statements and guidance. Quick read and to the point. If you are in the medical informatics field, reading this book is worth your time.
If you work for a healthcare organization and are having trouble or need a refresh in adopting your EHR, then check this book out. This is a good quick primer. The information is easy to digest, and provides some helpful examples. Most of us have already gone live with the EHR. Now it's time to make sure you're sustaining the adoption so that you reap the benefits. The four factors to consider: Leadership engagement, targeted education-e learning, performance metrics, and sustainment of your overall effort. Sounds a bit like Lean Technology that many hospitals have adopted. The introductory quotes for each chapter are great! Each page has some highlighted info off to the side which can be distracting as you read the book, however, if you want a quick overview of key ideas and concepts, this is a quick way to grab the information-even after you've read the book.Make sure you read the Appendix as it has some good information too. I plan to get this book into the hands of our CEO and IT folks.
I have been involved in numerous system selections and implementations, and currently I’m in the early stages of another one. After reading Beyond Implementation I immediately acquired thirty-copies to share with the other senior leaders.Beyond Implementation offers an easy to consume story that highlights the key issues many system selection and implementations face, and then brings it all home in a clear and concise message. My conversations have changed from system selection and implementation to Adoption, Adoption, Adoption.I highly recommend Beyond Implementation for any organization that is preparing for a new system, replacing or upgrading an existing system.Read it, Share it, and change the way you view your system projects.
As a Clinical Information Systems director at a major health system, I highly recommend this book to any healthcare organization, leader, or professional trying to realize the most value from their healthcare technology! It not only underscores the reasons why most healthcare organizations struggle to optimize their systems - a myopic focus on the go-live event - it presents a practical methodology for HIT adoption in achieving improved and sustainable results. We use this book with our leadership teams for each of our implementations, and it has shaped the way we approach EHR implementation and adoption.
I've had the pleasure of working with The Breakaway Group, using their methodology, found in "Beyond Implementation" to aid several of my clients who wanted to get past "just using" their Electronic Medical Records ("EMR"s) and achieve actual productivity from the tool. This updated volume with new case studies offers clear and concise direction as to how to move your organization forward. Although focused primarily on healthcare organizations trying to implement new EMRs, its principles are applicable to any organization attempting to adopt new & improved processes & workflows. You can settle for accomplishing "compliance" or you can capture their hearts & minds. This book tells you how.
This book gave a crystal clear picture on the current problems Healthcare Organizations are facing. We are in the middle of a technology revolution. This book explains adopting the new era. Starting with leadership adoption all the way to continued sustainability. This is a must read for multiple levels of Healthcare Professionals. With meaningful use 3 closing in, many organizations that just " implemented" are going to wish they read this book.
