A honeymoon couple dives on the reefs off of Bermuda looking for a sunken ship, but what they find turns out to be a lot more interesting. And a lot more deadly!I really liked this book. I saw the movie in a theater in 1977, and I recently saw it again. A friend mentioned that the book was better, so I came to Amazon and found an old, out-of-print copy for sale. My friend was right--the book is better than the film, and very exciting. I like the young couple, David and Gail, and Romer Treece, the old reef expert who helps them. There's a lot of action, in and out of the water. I grew up on a tropical island and spent a lot of time scuba diving, so I could relate to all this.I actually enjoyed this as much as JAWS, Peter Benchley's other famous thriller. He wasn't a great writer, but he was a good, solid storyteller. I hope they make THE DEEP available as an ebook so I can recommend it to all my friends with reading devices. In the meantime, see if you can find an old paperback copy. It's a great beach book!

I'm a diver, a fan, what can I say. I just wanted to have it for my The Deep collection. Picked up a GSD Spinnaker regulator (just like the one Nick Nolte used) after many years searching.
One of my all time favorite reads. Well written characters, good dialog and a rousing adventure. I usually don't reread books, but this is an exception, I usually read this book every year or two, and it never gets old! If you haven't read this book, give it a try, has held up well against today's fiction.
The deep is one of my favorite books, I have it in paperback, but read it so ofter I have not ordered the hard copy. I love all of peter benchley books, they are a wonderful read.
good read
Came in as promised. Condition is as advertised.
Read this in high school and somehow lost my copy over the years. Bought one from a reseller on here and totally enjoyed the second read-through. Much more detailed than the movie, of course, the book is thrilling and loaded with facts.
